Viktor Verhovod: Mural

Biography

Viktor Verhovod was born in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and attended a four-year art college in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where he graduated in 1980 with a degree in Sculpture and Art Education. After graduation, and for the next seventeen years, he worked at an art studio as a sculptor. Viktor started as an assistant in a sculpture studio working on a team, and then started supervising public art projects. During this time, he developed several public art projects installed around Kyrgyzstan. Viktor has worked with architects and engineers on public art projects such as Reliefs.

During the last eleven years in Kyrgyzsan, Viktor worked as an art instructor and supervisor at a sculpture studio. In 1997, Viktor immigrated to the United States. His career here began as a student and teacher’s assistant in the Art Department at Sacramento City College. Viktor has had several solo and group shows at local galleries. As in Kyrgyzstan, Viktor works on public art projects using materials such as stone, metal, and ceramics. In 2005, he finished a project called ”Connection” which included several metal sculptures at Manuel J. Barandas Park. One of his recent projects, made of ceramic tiles, can be seen at County Primary Care Clinic.

Recently, Viktor and Frank Zamora completed a public art project at the Woodland, Yolo County, Juvenile Probation Center, which included a wall mural and a 3D ceramic sculpture. Viktor also completed a mural wall painting in Los Angeles at Citrus College. Currently, Viktor is an artisan at Gladding, McBean terra cotta factory in Lincoln. His sculptures and paintings reflect his life experiences in Russia and his discoveries of life in America.
